47th Annual Daffodil Cup - "Gopher" Points

Victoria BC, Aug 17-18 2018 - NSRA Winged Sprintcars Racing - Race 6 and 7 of the NSRA Winged Sprintcars Series 47th Annual Daffodil Cup at Western Speedway.

Western Raceway is carved out of a rock quarry - not far from Victoria. It's been around much longer than the houses on the horizon demanding at 10 pm curfew on racing, but lives on in the modern era by cultivating a diehard local audience. That crop filled the stands again for the fastest event of the year - the Daffodil Cup, which attracts race teams and drivers from all parts of the western continent. The Daffodil Cup features several different race classes with trophies for Island Dwarf cars, WILROC non-winged cars, and (OTRA) Old Timer Racing, and NSRA Winged Sprintcars.

Special Car Store followed the Rendle Brothers Racing Team through the warmups, heats and final race. Last year's NSRA points champion Aaron Willison was eager to gather points on his current season in 3rd place. Aaron was rewarded with a new car this year: #14 - his father now drive last year's winning car #41. In the course of high speed racing in open wheel cars, things are going to get interesting. A bit of a mixup in the heats cost a better place in the finals, but Aaron pulled the pins out and forged from 14th place start to 4th place finish. That many passes add a lot of points to the season total - the focus and goal of the team.
