HOT ROD Homecoming Car Show Celebrates 65 Years

HOT ROD Homecoming Celebrates 65 Years: Video
Pomona CA, Mar 25 2013 - 65 Years of Hot Rod. There are few magazines that have defined Automericana as well as Hot Rod. Few rags have survived to become part of the fabric of that history – but Hot Rod did, is and the brand seems to be going strong as ever. We’re fans and subscribers here at Special Car Store. The arrival of each month’s issue causes a slight disturbance in time – a few things might have to wait until we’re done, and we’re never done in good time. As a teen you tended to race your heart on the pictures, but later in life it seems ok to take a slow lane Sunday drive through the articles.

Given 65 years of stories, pictures, personalities and the best and brightest star cars – one might have had high expectations for what was put together for the big event. We get to see thousands of cars a year – this was probably the coolest assembly ever. Several buildings at the Pomona Fairplex were loaded end to end with high quality cars featured in Hot Rod at some point in time. 65 years has 780 covers – each issue would have presented dozens of cars to total many thousand. The very cachet of a Hot Rod appearance likely extended the lifetime of many of the honorees. Some cars have been restored several times by now.
Hot Rod is important to a lot of people. Hundreds of car enthusiasts brought their autocraft to bask in the crowd and sunshine amidst the displays. A surprising number of cars drove to the event from across the US – summer vacations used up on the road already but for a good cause. The hundreds of Hot Rod stories surely spawned many more over the weekend.

We’re putting 2023 on the editorial calendar for Hot Rod’s 75th Anniversary celebration. We’re not sure how the organizers will top this 2013 event, but a whole ‘nother generation will be growing up and in need of the history lesson. www.hotrod.com
