LA Auto Show opens Nov 30 until Dec 9 - photos & history
LA Auto Show History... "One automobile for every eighty Angelenos, a banner automobile city of the world" LA Times Jan 23 1907In the 1920's there were more cars per Angeleno than Chicago or New York. In 1929 fire burns and destroys $1 million worth of vehicles at the show. None of the 2500 people were seriously injured. The show continued to grow despite the Great Depression in the 1930's until the onset of WWII. The show then takes a 14 year hiatus. In the 1950's soldiers brought back interest in European cars - manufacturers from England, France and Italy join US domestic manufacturers at the show. The 1960's shows were heightened by the muscle car era and the introduction of Japanese manufacturers to the US market.Pictured below: 2011 LA Auto Show sample
